Your Supportive Parents (2018)
A collaboration with Leslie Rogers.
Your Supportive Parents is a participatory durational performance that seeks to activate queer notions of family. Two femmes, acting as parental figures, greet and converse with viewers. Each and every viewer is referred to as their child, and each and every viewer is gently invited into conversation and community. Throughout their time viewing the performance, each audience member receives praise, adoration, and expressions of parental pride. Using humor and a light touch, this performance seeks to loosen the grip of familial trauma for queer people and create a temporary sense of family that points towards alternative models of kinship.
